In this epoch of viral politics where every state visit is a meme waiting to happen, it is worth considering whether President Donald Trump actually revisits the videos and images taken at such events.

If he did, he'd no doubt realise what a giant baby he looks like when he desperately paws at any head of state he comes into contact with.

Yesterday, the White House hosted a joint press conference with French president Emmanuel Macron. Did Trump manage to do something deeply weird to his new friend? Indeed he did.

Much has been made of Trump's WWE-inspired crippling handshake which he presumably deploys to convince fellow leaders of his brute strength – but his latest body language development, which seems to have come straight from The Game for political leaders, is to extend the handshake into a never-ending grasp.

It's a similar power move to the cling on he pulled when Theresa May visited last January, which ended up making him look like an infant being dragged to his first day of school.

Now, we're not going all 'backwards elderly relative' on you while muttering into our Kronenbourg that men holding hands "just isn't right", but it is worth pointing out that two world leaders desperately clenching each other's hands to feign bromance is weird.

Macron, clearly having watched videos of Melania for instructions on how to avoid his unwanted advances, allowed Trump to use him as a rag-doll while pitching a new Iran nuclear deal for the US.

C'est la vie.
