A Trump 2024 Win Could Make His Legal Troubles Disappear

While there are more than a few people who are rooting for Donald Trump to go to jail over the Stormy Daniels hush money case, one pretty huge event could prevent that from happening, says CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig.

The 2024 election.

“The next time they’re going into court with Trump present is December,” he says on this episode of The New Abnormal politics podcast. “That’s eight months away. I’ve never seen a judge set a next appearance. And I get that it’s very, very complicated for Trump. We just saw it was like a military operation almost to get him moved around. But the reality of that is... there’s no way there will be a trial date set until 2024, and likely at least several months into 2024.”

“Now, is a judge really going to try a case while Donald Trump is in the middle of primaries and debates and the convention, and maybe the front-runner and maybe the presumptive nominee? That to me is really difficult to do as a practical matter,” he adds.

Honig thinks the Trump team’s best course of action would be to delay a trial. Because if he wins the presidency, the chances of getting Trump tried are slim.
