Truck split in half in Crosstown Connector crash; northbound lanes now open

The northbound lanes of the Selmon Crosstown Connector near Interstate 4 have reopened after a wrong-way crash involving a pickup Thursday morning, troopers said.

The connector was “fully open to traffic” by about 12:40 p.m., according to an update from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash occurred about 9 a.m. when a man driving north in a 2018 Dodge pickup made a U-turn near the toll gantry and began going south in the northbound lanes. He then hit a concrete wall, causing the truck to split in half and catch fire, troopers said.

The driver, a 41-year-old St. Petersburg man, was taken to a hospital with critical injuries.

Selmon Expressway officials reported on X that the crash prompted the closure of the northbound lanes and the eastbound and westbound exits from the Selmon.
