Truck loses milk tank north of Meade

MEADE, Kan. (KSNW) — A truck lost its milk tank north of Meade on Friday.

The Meade County Emergency Management Office says it happened on Kansas Highway 23 north of the Kansas Highway 98 Junction.

The truck was hauling a full tanker of milk when the somehow detached from the semi.

The department says the driver was able to maintain control of the truck and trailer and safely pull both off of the road and onto the shoulder. However, a small fire ignited in the grass.

Firefighting crews from Meade and Fowler responded to the scene, along with Meade County Sheriff’s deputies. The fire was brought quickly under control.

No injuries were reported. Meade County Emergency Management did not say what caused the trailer to detach.

According to the Kansas Livestock Association, Kansas ranks 16th in the nation for dairy production. In 2022 alone, Kansas dairies produced over 4 billion pounds (463,097,522 gallons) of milk.
