Truck crashes into a toll booth on I-95 north in Hampton, New Hampshire and catches fire

State Police in New Hampshire were telling drivers on I-95 to avoid the Hampton tolls area on Saturday afternoon after a truck crashed into a toll booth and caught fire.

The driver, Patrick Jones, 43, of South Portland, Maine suffered serious injuries.

“The preliminary investigation has determined that just before the crash, the pickup was approaching the Hampton Toll Plaza on the northbound side of Interstate 95 when its driver suddenly changed lanes,” according to state police. “The pickup then hit a concrete abutment next to a tollbooth and went airborne before crashing and catching fire.”

Troopers say when they arrived on the scene of the crash they found the gray 2021 Ford F-150 pickup truck fully engulfed in flames.

“The driver of the pickup had serious but non-life-threatening injuries and the only passenger, a child under 18, was not hurt,” said police.

“A toll attendant, who was inside the adjacent tollbooth at the time of the crash, was not hurt,” said state police. “Jones was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital to be treated for his injuries. The child passenger was transported to the hospital as a precaution.”

Traffic cameras in the area showed first responders on the scene working on the emergency.

“While impairment is not suspected to be a factor, all aspects of the crash remain under investigation,” according to a statement from police.

All cash lanes of the highway going north were closed due to the crash but they were finally reopened at 6:00 p.m.
