Truck collides with school bus in Galt in suspected DUI crash

May 14—A driver suspected of driving under the influence was arrested after the truck he was driving collided with a school bus on Tuesday in Galt.

At approximately 5:25 p.m., the Galt Police and Cosumnes Fire departments were dispatched to a report of a traffic collision involving a school bus and a pick-up truck at the intersection of A Street and Oak Avenue, the Galt Police Department reported.

When first responders arrived at the scene the bus had already been evacuated. The bus driver was transported to a local hospital for difficulty breathing, police said. The students remained on scene, some receiving first aid for complaint of pain.

Multiple California Highway Patrol units arrived on scene and took over the investigation. School district personnel also arrived and assisted with identifying the students and helping to reunify them with their parents.

CHP took the driver of the pick-up truck into custody on suspicion of DUI. The collision also caused significant damage to a powerline. SMUD was on scene to address that issue.
