Excessive rainfall forecast

This hurricane season is expected to be very active, and forecasters are urging residents to prepare now, not when a storm is approaching.

To help residents get ready, Gov. Ron DeSantis has signed into law the 2024 disaster preparedness sales tax holiday. Save money by purchasing needed hurricane supplies during the two, two-week periods: June 1-June 14 and Aug. 24-Sept. 6.

Forecasters with the National Hurricane Center didn't highlight any tropical cyclones or tropical waves in Thursday morning's outlook. They did mention the following:

  • Gulf of Mexico

    • A cold front extends from south of Tampa Bay into the Gulf of Mexico. The front is transitioning into a warm front that extends to the South Texas coast. The warm front is expected to move north today before stalling Friday along the northern Gulf Coast, bringing the threat of heavy rain and thunderstorms to the northern Gulf starting Thursday and lasting through the weekend.

  • Caribbean Sea

    • A system of high pressure is bringing strong winds off Honduras. Winds could reach gale force through Saturday morning, bringing moderate to rough seas.

  • Atlantic Ocean

    • A cold front extends from the Melbourne coast to east-northeast of Jacksonville in the Atlantic. Numerous strong thunderstorms are in front of the system. Conditions will improve as the front dissipates into Saturday

    • A weak cold front is located in the Central Atlantic.

    • In the eastern Atlantic, a system of high pressure is bringing gentle to moderate winds and moderate seas.

Who is likely to be impacted?

Forecasters urge all residents to continue monitoring the tropics and to always be prepared.

That advice is particularly important for what is expected to be a very active hurricane season.
