Tropical Storm Ileana blows over Pacific off of Mexico, but no threat to land

MIAMI - Tropical Storm Ileana is blowing over the open waters of the Pacific coast off of Mexico, but currently poses no threat to land.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said Tuesday the storm is located about 415 miles (670 km) west-southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico, and about 475 miles (765 km) south of the southern tip of Baja California.

It has maximum sustained winds of 50 mph (85 kph) and is moving west-northwest at 9 mph (15 kph).

The Center said it could become a hurricane in a day or two.
