Tropical Storm Hector forms off western Mexico coast; expected to move out to sea

MIAMI - Forecasters say Tropical Storm Hector has formed off the western coast of Mexico and is expected to move farther out to sea over the next few days.

Hector is the season's eighth named tropical storm. The National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida, says winds Saturday night were sustained at 40 mph (65 kph) and the storm is about 250 miles (405 kilometres) west of Manzanillo, Mexico.

Forecasters say the storm is expected to strengthen but was moving west-southwest farther out in the Eastern Pacific.
