Jun. 23—Friday marked the ninth day in a row the Midland-Odessa area exceeded the century mark and according to the National Weather Service, we just may bust a 14-day record of temps above 100 degrees in the coming days.

Meteorologist Brian Curan said residents can expect to see a high temperature of 111 degrees Saturday, which will break the record of 108 degrees set in 2018. Sunday should top out around 110-111 degrees, which will match the record set in 2011 for that date.

It's expected to be 106-107 Monday through Thursday and it's a safe bet we'll continue to have triple digit heat through the holiday weekend, he said.

There's a 15% chance of rain Saturday afternoon, but if it materializes it will be scant, he said.

"This is the most significant heat we've seen since 2018," Curan said. "What we're telling people is to stay out of the heat, if possible. Get in someplace cool. Hydrate. Hydrate. Hydrate and if you're outside, hydrate some more. Wear sunshades and hats and try to stay in the shade as much as you can."

The overnight lows will be in the upper '70s, he said.

Juanita Dominguez, the office manager/bookkeeper for the Salvation Army, 810 E. 11th Street, opened up its gym to serve as a cooling station Friday.

It'll remain open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. every day but Friday, when it will be open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., she said.

The Salvation Army is seeking food and water donations, she said.
