The future of Triple Crown at 335 S. Main St. in Munroe Falls remains unclear. The restaurant has been closed since 2011.

A couple of years after big plans were announced for Triple Crown Restaurant in Munroe Falls, the restaurant, once known for its thoroughbred racing-themed décor and fine dining, still sits empty, its vast interior silent.

Silent, too, have been the owner and the mother-son duo who had leased the space with the vision to reopen Triple Crown and bring it back to the winner's circle.

Who currently owns the property?

According to the most recent property tax records from the Summit County Fiscal office, the owner is Anthony Salem, a dentist with an office in Fairlawn. Salem purchased the property in October 2021. He could not be reached for comment.

The restaurant, at 335 S. Main St., was built in 1982 and is 20,676 square feet, according to the Summit County Fiscal Office. The property is valued at $874,130. The taxes on the property have been paid in full for the first half of the year, which was $9,905.82 for the six months.

As of December 2021, Sandra Kanieski and her son Chris Kanieski were leasing the property from Salem with the vision of reopening Triple Crown under that name and with a similar menu and ambiance, including a bar and full-service restaurant.

Neither could be reached for comment.

The Kanieskis own Crooked River Adventures Canoe and Kayak Livery, and the World Famous Iron Horse Saloon, both in Burton.

Ken Salman, a zoning official with Munroe Falls, said no paperwork or plans have been filed with the city. Officials from the Stow Building Department, which reviews plans for Munroe Falls, could not be reached for comment.

What is the history of the Triple Crown Restaurant?

Edward Barr originally opened the restaurant in 1983. After his death, his widow, Patricia Barr Box, ran the restaurant until 2007. It was vacant between 2007 and 2010, when it was bought by Deborah Parz of Hudson, who reopened it under the same name. It closed again in 2011, and has been shuttered since.
