Trinity delivers four Leap Day babies

Leaping babies!

In addition to the 10 newborns that came into the world in Davenport Thursday, Feb. 29, Leap Day welcomed four births at UnityPoint Health – Trinity BirthPlace.

Trinity celebrated the arrival of four Leap Day babies:

• Emilio, born to parents Maria and Victor of Rock Island, weighed 8 pounds, 9 ounces and measured 20 inches long.

• Baker, born to parents Lindsay and Jeremy of Eldridge, weighed 7 pounds, 13.6 ounces and measured 20 inches long.

• Kiran, born to parents Joniaa and Ken of Davenport, weighed 6 pounds, 11.8 ounces and measured 19 inches long.

• Araya, born to Victoria of Mineral, weighed 7 pounds, 4.4 ounces and measured 18 inches.

The healthy babies were delivered by team members at Trinity BirthPlace Bettendorf. Leap
Day comes around every four years and holds a special charm and excitement for families
welcoming little ones on this date, Trinity said in a Friday release. A person born on Feb. 29 may be called a “leapling,” “leaper,” or “leap-year baby.”

Genesis BirthCenter, Davenport, witnessed 10 babies making their historic entrance into the world, according to Genesis Thursday.

Only about 5 million people worldwide were born on Feb. 29, and there is a 1 in 1,461 chance of giving birth on Leap Day, according to Parents magazine.

According to the comics, Superman was born on Leap Day. Other celebrities born on Feb. 29 include rapper Ja Rule, Mark Foster of the band Foster the People, motivational speaker Tony Robbins, and soap opera star Antonio Sabato Jr.

“Trinity BirthPlace is honored to be part of the birthing experience for these families and recognize their little one’s unique birthdays,” according to a Friday Trinity release.

Trinity BirthPlace Moline and Trinity BirthPlace Bettendorf have been recognized by Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield with a Blue Distinction Centers+ (BDC+) for Maternity Care designation, as part of the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program.
