Tribune named official Stafford County paper

Mar. 8--------

ST. JOHN — The Great Bend Tribune has been designated official county paper for Stafford County.

Stafford County Clerk Lisa Weber informed the newspaper staff Wednesday afternoon that the official designation was approved that morning and has immediate effect.

The three members of the Stafford County Commission normally meet on Wednesdays during the week.

For many years, the county's official newspaper of record was the Stafford County Courier. The sudden death of editor David Green in July 2023, however, left the county without an official publication, Weber said. The Tribune became the official city paper for the city of Stafford in the fall of 2023.

Problems with the publication of important county legals and notices prompted the change, she said.

"We were continually having problems with publication of our notices in other area news outlets," Weber noted. "We discussed the fact that the Tribune publishes three times a week, and for us that is a real plus."
