Trial to start for suspect in murder of Riverview High School grad

SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — The trial for a man accused of killing a standout Tampa football player is expected to start Monday in Sarasota County.

Nyquan Priester is charged with second-degree murder for the death of Riverview High School graduate Dylan Jenkins. The 18-year-old was home from college for Christmas break when he was shot and killed at Ackerman Park.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the park around 11 p.m. on Dec. 29, 2021. Investigators say a large group of people were gathered when several shots were fired from the back seat of a car in the parking lot.

During their investigation, detectives say they discovered that Kalvion Turner and Priester were in the back seat of the gold Hyundai where the shots were fired. Priester was taken into custody by authorities in Utica, New York in January 2022.

According to court documents, Priester’s trial is expected to start Monday in Sarasota County.
