Trial dates set in homicide, rape, other cases

May 6—Criminal Court judges have set trial dates for 11 defendants from this week to November, with charges ranging from homicide, aggravated assault, rape and rape of a child. In all but one case, pretrial motion hearing dates were also set.

This week jury selection is scheduled to begin Wednesday in the trial of John Wayne Hamby, 40, Price Loop, who is charged with rape of a child. Three days have been set aside for that trial to which Hamby has pleaded not guilty. In other cases, the following trial dates were set:

—Quentin Eugene McDaniel, rape, trial date set for July 10-11.

—Jeffery Jonathan Dannel, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon by a felon, motion hearing set for July 16 and trial set for Aug. 14.

—Jude Rod Pennington, first-degree murder, motion hearing set for Sept. 3 and trial date set for Sept. 11-12.

—Thomas Lane Cobb, possession of meth with intent, possession of a weapon by a felon, possession of a Schedule II drug with intent, three counts of simple possession of meth, simple possession and possession of drug paraphernalia, motion hearings set for Aug. 6 and trial set for Sept. 24.

—Nichole Lynn Ambrose, possession of a weapon by a felon and simple possession, motion hearing set for Sept. 10 and trial set for Oct. 29. Burglary and vandalism of $10,000 to $60,000, continued to Oct. 29 for tracking.

—John Clayton Neely, theft of property of $1,000 to $2,500, motion hearing set for Aug. 13 and trial set for Oct. 29.

—Robert Eugene Presley Jr., possession of a weapon by a felon, possession of meth with intent and possession of a firearm during commission of a dangerous felony, motion hearing set for Oct. 8 and trial set for Nov. 6. Auto burglary, moved to Oct. 8 for tracking.
