‘It would be tremendous’: Hawkeyes look to three-peat as Big Ten champs

In the 31-year history of the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament, there’s been a handful of teams that have won three titles in a row: Purdue from 1999-2001, Ohio State from 2009-2011 and Maryland from 2015-2017.

Of course, the Iowa women have nothing to prove. They’ve climbed the top of the NCAA tournament mountain, put national players of the year on the floor for half a decade, and of course won five conference titles of their own.

For head coach Lisa Bluder, it would be an awesome accomplishment — but not the end-al,l be-all.

“I think winning three Big Ten championships in a row would be tremendous,” Bluder said. “Is it the only thing that’s going to solidify their place in history? I don’t think so.”

“I think they’ve already done that with the attention that they’ve brought to this team with the crossover, with the national championship game last year. We we want to win three games in three days and win the championship — but I don’t think it’s the end-all either.”

“We have a lot of momentum going into it and I think we’re all clicking at the right time,” Iowa guard Kylie Feuerbach said. “The same thing that happened last year. I feel like it’s beautiful to see throughout the season how much everybody progresses and how our team chemistry builds. It’s a really exciting time and we’re all really pumped for it.”
