Travis Wright sworn in to the Knox County Board of Education

Travis Wright was just elected March 5 as the GOP candidate in the Knox County Board of Education race, and he's already a full-fledged member of the board.

"This has been a whirlwind," Wright said. "I'm ready to represent the folks in the 8th District. I'm ready to serve."

Knox County commissioners planned last month to appoint the winner of the District 8 GOP primary to fill the seat left vacant after the death of Mike McMillan. They felt the appointment was appropriate this soon before the general election because there were no Democratic candidates vying for the seat.

Wright, 44, was sworn in the morning of March 6 and will sit with his fellow school board members at their meeting March 7.

Just as results for the primary rolled in late March 5, Wright told Knox News his first priority would be to immediately acclimate himself to the board's procedures.

Wright's opponent in the GOP primary was Tommy Lakins, 65, a U.S. Bank executive.
