Travis County inmate dies at hospital following medical incident

TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — A Travis County inmate died at the hospital Thursday following a medical incident, according to the Travis County Sheriff’s Office.

TCSO said 55-year-old Yolanda Montgomery was found alert but in medical distress in her unit at approximately 2:55 a.m. Thursday.

According to officials, Montgomery was then taken to the jail’s medical clinic but was later moved to a Central Austin hospital.

TCSO said Montgomery spoke with doctors while at the hospital before beginning treatment. The sheriff’s office said her condition worsened, and she was pronounced dead at 2:27 p.m.

Officials said Montgomery was booked into custody Feb. 29 and charged with assault bodily injury – family violence.

TCSO said there was an investigation underway “as is customary with any death in custody.”

An autopsy was completed Friday, and the results are pending.
