Transgender woman convicted of sexually assaulting 10-year-old girl in bathroom

A Wyoming transgender woman was convicted Thursday of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in the bathroom of a private residence.

Michelle Martinez, formerly known as Miguel, was found guilty of first-degree and second-degree sexual abuse of a minor and faces up to 70 years in prison.

The 10-year-old victim's mother, who was reportedly a friend of Martinez, reported the incident to police in March after her daughter said that Martinez sexually assaulted her.

The victim told police that Martinez invited her into the bathroom and touched her breasts and genitalia before penetrating her, according to the Billings Gazette.

Nurses at the Wyoming Medical Center who conducted a sexual assault exam on the child found redness and abrasions on the girl's genitalia.

Martinez, who had a blood alcohol concentration of .218 on the night of the assault, told arresting officers that she did not molest the child.

Martinez also pleaded not guilty to the charges in May at an arraignment in Natrona County District Court.
