Laura Jane Grace (Against Me!) and Mina Caputo (Life of Agony) will be performing together at the fourth annual Journeys Alternative Press Music Awards fueled by Monster Energy, which will be held July 17 at the Keybank State Theater in Cleveland. This event be the first time that these two transgender rock icons will perform together live at an award ceremony; both artists are excited to spread the message of unity, equality, and empowerment. Grace will be the recipient of the APMA’s prestigious Icon Award, an honor she will share with past recipients Marilyn Manson and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts.

Additionally, on July 16, Grace and Caputo will speak on a “LGBTQ In Music” panel at the free APMAs Fan Day, taking place at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Grace also will be signing copies of her acclaimed memoir, Tranny: Confessions of Punk Rock’s Most Infamous Anarchist Sellout.

“Songwriters like Laura demonstrate how internal struggles comprise great American artists. Her artistic impact is obvious to us all. She’s been pioneering in her genre for years now, becoming a vital messenger of artistic truth, a musical raconteur, and an unbelievable humanitarian,” says Caputo. “I am extremely honored and humbled to share the stage with Laura and Against Me at the APMAs!

“I’m so excited…in a way, it vindicates my own personal struggles, for when another artist asks you to share an important moment in their own career, that’s when you recognize shift is in the air,” she continues. “Also, I can’t think of anyone else who is more deserving for this special Icon award. I am ecstatic for her and all of her personal and musical achievements. She deserves the world.”

“Having Laura Jane Grace and Life Of Agony’s Mina Caputo on the same stage illustrates the enduring and exciting raw nature of both punk and heavy metal, fortified by a social awareness that is as serious as a three-block city fire,” says CEO/Founder of Alternative Press magazine Mike Shea. “Neither Grace or Caputo pull any punches, and these days, the world’s music fans need that sonic affirmation more than ever.”

Journeys Alternative Press Music Awards fueled by Monster Energy will feature performances by All Time Low, Against Me!, Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness, Bone Thugs, Korn, Machine Gun Kelly, New Years Day, Nothing More, ONE OK ROCK, Pierce The Veil, Plain White T’s, and more.
