Moore questions Ft. Novosel cuts rumors, to meet with Army

FORT NOVOSEL, Ala (WDHN) — Flight training at Fort Novosel will continue despite rumors of funds being pulled from the base, military officials confirmed to WDHN.

The rumors began after a post on X (formally known as Twitter) claimed that almost all of the funds for training at the Army Aviation Center at Fort Novosel were being taken away and allocated for Ukraine and Foreign Aid. The post said the training would halt on Wednesday, May 1, and not resume until late October.

Congressman Barry Moore says that while flight training has not been disrupted, he has questions.

“While we have received acknowledgment that the Army is dealing with a funding issue, the nature of it has not been disclosed, and we have also been assured that flight training at Fort Novosel has not been disrupted. We have made multiple inquiries to the Army and they have agreed to provide a formal briefing,” Moore wrote on X. “My staff and I have been working with House Armed Services Chairman Rogers and the rest of the Alabama delegation to get answers on this issue.”

Fort Novosel officials told WDHN that training and flights are continuing as usual at the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence, and Novosel’s budget has not been impacted.

Senator Katie Britt wrote that her office has been in touch with “senior military officials” who have also confirmed no funds have been diverted from the USAACE.

Sen. Britt went on to say that she assisted in securing $1.38 billion for flight training at the home of Army Aviation in the recently passed FY24 Defense Appropriations bill.

Britt and Moore are both Enterprise natives who grew up next to the post.

President Joe Biden signed a $95 billion foreign aid package in late April, approving funding for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan.
