Train collides with construction vehicle on Kuna tracks, driver airlifted to hospital

A train collided with a construction vehicle on Monday afternoon south of Boise, resulting in one hospitalization.

At about 4:40 p.m., a train hit a front-end loader at the intersection of South Cole Road and Barker Road in southwest Kuna, officials said.

The driver of the front-end loader, who was moving the load from one side of the tracks to the other, was injured and airlifted to a hospital for treatment, according to Andrea Dearden, a spokesperson for the Ada County Sheriff’s Office.

A witness reported that “the train was blowing its horn as a warning but the driver didn’t appear to realize the train was approaching,” Dearden said.

The train did not derail, and no chemicals or other hazardous materials were spilled, officials said. Responders with the Kuna Police Department, Kuna Fire Department and Meridian Fire Department were at the scene.

The rural intersection, one side of which is a dirt road, remained closed as of 5:30 p.m. Monday.
