The trailer for next week’s “Game of Thrones” hints that someone switches sides — and not in a good way
The penultimate episode of Game of Thrones is quickly approaching, and we’re going beyond the wall. Conviently, that is also the episode title, “Beyond the Wall.” Jon Snow and his merry band of men have suited up for cold weather and are on what is, undoubtedly, a suicide mission. Jon wants to capture a wight and bright it back so everyone in Westeros can see that there is a GREATER threat at hand.
As he’s reminded us many times before, it’s cool if someone finally claims the Iron Throne, but that’s all going to be for naught if the White Walkers kill everyone.
The trailer for “Beyond the Wall” shows Jon — along with Jorah, Gendry, Tormund, Thoros of Myr, Beric Dondarrion, and The Hound — looking, among other things, sad. You’d be pretty sad, too, if you were greatly outnumbered and facing certain death.
The trailer for the episode is barely a minute long, and most of it is action (and Jon looking sad). But then, there’s one moment in it that seems oddly out of place. This White Walker Fellowship is supposed to be fighting White Walkers…
…so why does it look like Gendry is fighting THE HOUND?
In very much a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, Gendry fights someone with his giant Baratheon hammer. Upon first look, sure, it’s probably a White Walker/wight. But upon watching it a second time (or, like 15 times), you’ll realize that no, that can’t be a White Walker because they are wearing a warm outfit meant for a human, and also they have long, luscious locks. White Walkers do not have brown hair.
There’s also this troubling moment from the trailer: The Hound clearly has Gendry’s Baratheon hammer. How did he…how did he get it? Whispers, where is Gendry?
We know that Gendry is less than thrilled to see the Brotherhood Without Banners again, and the Hound has joined up with them (after he looked into the flame earlier in the season). It’s pretty farfetched to think that he’d just simply turn on the Brotherhood — and in a way, Jon — just like that. Sure, the Brotherhood sold him away and he was almost sacraficed to the Lord of Light, but that was like four seasons ago. Unless Gendry is running the best long con in Westeros, and has gone beyond the Wall just to get revenge on these men, it’s unlikely that this is the scenario.
But there has to be a reason as to why Gendry fights someone who’s not undead, and then the Hound gets his hammer.
