New trail expansions and improvements coming to Colo Spgs

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Several new trail projects are coming to North Cheyenne Cañon Park in Colorado Springs. According to the Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services Facebook page, the city will soon begin multiple expansions and improvements to its trail system.

The Ladders Trail will be extended by 2.5 miles, connecting the Middle Columbine Trail and Captain Jack’s Trail, Gold Camp Road, and Stratton Open Space. There will also be a unique “timber bridge” to allow bike traffic to pass easily over Captain Morgan’s Trail.

Captain Morgan’s Trail and Penrose Trail will also be improved to ensure safety and sustainability. The Ladders Trail expansion will cause some areas of Gold Camp Road to be shut down intermittently while work is being done. This work is being supported by the Lodgers and Automobile Rental Tax (LART), and the Trails, Open Space and Parks (TOPS) Tax.

Several local organizations are involved in funding and supporting these trail projects, including the Pikes Peak Outdoor Recreation Alliance (PPORA), Friends of Cheyenne Cañon, The Sports Corp Stewardship Fund, and The Colorado Springs Mountain Bike Association (COSMBA).
