Traffic light may be out for days after car hits pole at major Cathedral City intersection

A traffic light at the intersection of Vista Chino and Date Palm Drive in Cathedral City was out after a car hit the signal pole Wednesday morning. The city advised drivers to use caution, saying the pole may take a few days to repair.

The outage was backing up traffic in several directions near a busy Interstate 10 exit.

Cathedral City dispatched a public works crew to repair the pole once a fire caused by the crash was put out in the area just south of Interstate 10.

City spokesperson Ryan Hunt said the lights were out completely and crews hoped to have them flashing Wednesday afternoon, but in any case the intersection will be a four-way stop until the pole is repaired.
