Crash on I-81 North cleared in Roanoke County

UPDATE: 9 A.M. ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — VDOT says all lanes on I-81 North are open after a crash in Roanoke County.

Traffic is starting to flow in the area.



UPDATE: 8:32 A.M. ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — All northbound lanes are currently closed after a crash on I-81 in Roanoke County on Wednesday morning.

VDOT says traffic is now backed up about six miles and is at a standstill.

Drivers can expect heavy delays in this area and are encouraged to find alternative routes.



UPDATE: 7:48 A.M. ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — VDOT says traffic is backed up for about three miles after a crash on I-81 North in Roanoke County.

Drivers are still being diverted to one lane, at this time.



ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Traffic has been reduced to one lane on Interstate 81 North in Roanoke County after a vehicle crashed on Wednesday morning.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) says the crash happened near mile marker 138.4, near the construction zone. As a result, the north right lane and right shoulder are blocked off and traffic is delayed for almost two miles.

Currently, first responders are on the scene and are working to clear the crash.
