Traffic Alert: I-5 north in Carlsbad closing to traffic overnight Monday

CARLSBAD, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Caltrans is warning drivers that all lanes of northbound Interstate 5 will be closed to traffic overnight Monday and a detour will be in place.

I-5 northbound in Carlsbad, between Carlsbad Village Drive and State Route 78 (SR-78), will be closed to all traffic from Monday, April 15 at 11:30 p.m. to Tuesday, April 16 at 4:30 a.m., weather permitting.

Caltrans and SANDAG Build North Coast Corridor (NCC) highway construction crews will be placing an overhead sign structure across all lanes during the closure.

A detour will be in place using the exit at Carlsbad Village Drive to El Camino Real. Drivers will be able to enter northbound I-5 from Vista Way or SR-78.

Caltrans is also notifying nearby businesses and residents to expect construction noise and lights during the overnight work, but emphasized crews will work to minimize noise and impacts to nearby communities.

According to the transportation department, the “Move Over” law requires drivers to move over a lane or slow down for flashing lights from Caltrans vehicles, law enforcement and emergency vehicles, and tow trucks, and that traffic fines are doubled in construction zones.
