Trader Joe’s coming to Salt Lake City’s Sugar House neighborhood

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — It’s official, Utahns — Trader Joe’s is opening up a new location in Salt Lake City’s Sugar House neighborhood.

“We’ve consulted our maps and compass and have found a terrific location for a store in Salt Lake City, UT,” a post from Trader Joe’s reads online. “Our Crew is working hard so we can open our doors in 2024.”

The new store will be located at 2160 South 700 East, Salt Lake City, Utah 84106.

The Sugar House location will help bridge the gap between the Trader Joe’s on 400 South in Salt Lake City and the location off 1300 East in Cottonwood Heights. There is also another location in Orem, near 400 East and Park Avenue.

ABC4.com reached out to Trader Joe’s back in October 2023 for information regarding a commercial building permit submitted to Salt Lake City. At the time, Trader Joe’s spokesperson Nakia Rohdes said, “We are actively looking at hundreds of neighborhoods across the country as we hope to open more neighborhood stores each year.”

Well, our grocery store wishes have come true, and the new location is set. It will be the Beehive State’s fifth Trader Joe’s.

The last Utah location to open was in Draper — marking the state’s fourth Trader Joe’s.

Here’s a list of commitments Trader Joe’s makes to their customers, listed on their site:

  • “We buy direct from suppliers whenever possible, we bargain hard to get the best price, and then pass the savings on to you.”

  • “We buy in volume and contract early to get the best prices.”

  • “If an item doesn’t pull its weight in our stores, it goes away, making room for another innovative new product.”

  • “Most grocers charge their suppliers fees for putting an item on the shelf. This results in higher prices… so we don’t do it.”

  • “We keep our costs low because every penny we save is a penny you save.”
