Tractor trailer hits overpass in Northwest DC

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A tractor trailer hit part of the the Whitehurst Freeway overpass in Northwest D.C., blocking some lanes Thursday afternoon.

The Metropolitan Police Department said the crash happened in the 3500 block of Water St. NW. There was no structural damage to the overpass.

All travel lanes on the roadway were blocked while a crane worked to remove the tractor trailer.

Police said that entrances to Whitehurst Freeway NW at M Street and K Street were closed. The westbound ramp at 27th Street NW and the westbound Key Bridge ramp also were closed.

Drivers were asked to find an alternate route and follow officers’ directions.
