Monroe County sheriff's deputies are investigating a three-vehicle crash that caused a tractor-trailer to veer off the highway and into a house on South Clinton Avenue in Brighton on Wednesday evening.

Sgt. Kevin Cooper of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said that the crash occurred just after 7 p.m. on the northbound lanes of Interstate 390 and caused a tractor-trailer to leave the highway and crash into the home on South Clinton Avenue near Brighton-Henrietta Town Line Road.

Drivers were experiencing "near white-out" conditions at the time of the crash, which appeared to be a factor in what caused the tractor-trailer to leave the highway, said Sgt. Mike Zamiara of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

According to Henrietta Fire Chief Mark Cholach, two people suffered minor injuries in the crash, which occurred during a snow squall and involved the rig and two sport utility vehicles. One SUV also exited I-390 during the incident, but stopped near the edge of South Clinton Avenue, he said.

The tractor-trailer, which was hauling paper products, struck a telephone pole before it slammed into a split-level house, heavily damaging the home, Cholach said. Two people were inside the house at the time of the crash - one of those occupants as well as the truck driver were taken to an area hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The cab of the rig crashed through the front door of the house and damaged rooms on the first and second floors of the home, Cholach said.

The house is not currently livable, he said, and "may be a total loss."
