Toyota to launch the Innova Crysta tomorrow

Toyota will launch the Innova Crysta MPV for the Indian market tomorrow. It is an all-new car with an updated feature list that aims to take the MPV up a notch from where it began its life 11 years ago. It will be offered with two engines and two gearbox options. We have already driven the car and you can find a link to our first drive, here.

This is the second generation for the Japanese automaker’s successful MPV and it was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. It was met with generally positive reviews from the public.

The Innova Crysta will be offered with two diesel engine options - a 2.4-litre and 2.8-litre four-cylinder mill. The former produces 150bhp/343Nm while the latter’s output is 174bhp/360Nm. The 2.4-litre that is offered gets a five-speed manual while the 2.8-litre is mated to a six-speed AT. Both send power to the rear wheels. The diesel AT option is a first in this body style and comes with two driving modes.

The design for this new car is evolutionary and aims to capitalise on the success of the outgoing model. The overall silhouette has been retained but there are now heavily flared wheel arches, revised fascia and a more modern design for the roofline. Inside, the top-spec Z variant features climate control, leather upholstery and a touchscreen infotainment system. All variants will get three airbags with ABS as standard.

We believe that Toyota will price the Innova Crysta in the range of Rs 13 lakh to Rs 20 lakh for the top-of-the-line diesel AT. It will compete with the likes of the Tata Hexa and Mahindra XUV500.
