Toy gun confiscated at Fairfield Elementary School in VB

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A student made a verbal threat and a toy gun was confiscated from another student at Fairfield Elementary School Wednesday.

School officials said both cases were thoroughly investigated and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.

The following letter was sent to school families:

Good afternoon, Fairfield Elementary School families,

Regrettably, we had two incidents that occurred on campus. In one incident, we had a student make a verbal threat to cause harm to our school. In a separate incident, we learned that a student brought a toy gun to school. I want to assure you that both cases have been thoroughly investigated in collaboration with our school administration, School Resource Officer and the Office of Security and Emergency Management.

Appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken in accordance with the school division’s code of conduct. With the safety and security of our students and staff as our top priority, please know we must take every threat seriously.

Considering these incidents, I kindly request you to please remind your children that weapons of any kind, even toys, are not allowed on school property and can lead to serious consequences. Also, please take a moment to discuss with your child the importance of expressing frustration or emotions in appropriate ways. Even seemingly harmless comments intended as jokes can have serious consequences, including potential criminal charges.

As always, if students hear something they should report it immediately to the police or an adult. This will allow the school administration and the police to respond more efficiently to any safety concerns. We want everyone who walks through our doors to always feel safe.

Thank you for your ongoing support of Fairfield Elementary School.
