Tourism tax dollars amplify 2024 events in Wayne County
HONESDALE, WAYNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Wayne County officials in cooperation with the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau (PMVB) announced around $200,000 in funding for events coming in 2024.
Wayne County Commissioners, the Wayne Cunty Hotel Tax Board, and the PMVB announced Thursday, roughly $200,000 in funding for events and nonprofit organizations in 2024, from the Tourism Project Disbursement Allocation Program.
Officials say the program has helped fund many organizations and events over the last six years, totaling over $780,000 in awards.
“What makes Wayne County unique is the strong volunteer spirit that pulls off many nonprofit events throughout the year which in turn drives the tourism economy. We are blessed to support their efforts which in turn improve the quality of life for everyone here this part of the Pocono Mountains.”

Funding applications underwent review by the Wayne County Tourism Promotion Committee and the PMVB resulting in awards to events such as Roots & Rhtym celebrating its 17th year, and the Honesdale Beer & Wine Fest, which was a big success in its first year of 2023.

“The Pocono Mountains communities and organizations continue to show first-class hospitality and provide events and entertain visitors and residents. Tourism provides a significant chunk of the economic impact to Wayne County and our organization is thrilled to support the organizations and event planners who make the region such a special place to live, work, and visit,” stated Chris Barrett, President/CEO of the PMVB.
The funding awarded will provide marketing assistance to nonprofit organizations and event promoters to aid in bringing visitors to Wayne County and the Pocono Mountains every year.
