Take a tour of the world’s first hydrogen-powered boat at the Wharf

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The Energy Observer is the world’s first hydrogen-powered zero-emission vessel to travel around the world, making stops in parts of Europe, Africa and now North America.

This week, it stopped at the Wharf in the District.

“Very special for us because on boats we are used to have always diesel noise, vibrations, smell… on this boat you… don’t hear nothing,” said Louis Noel Vivies, general manager of the Energy Observer.

This is the boat’s seventh tour around the world. One of its planned stops in the near future is Paris for the Olympics.

“We are a little sad, because it’s the end of 7-year trip, but it has been so interesting,” Vivies said.

Their journey started in 2017 in France.

Simone Stewart, who is a senior industrial policy specialist at the National Wildlife Federation, was one of the special guests welcomed on the boat in the District.

“As a policy person, we’re familiar with these kinds of things, but I think that there is a gap. Opportunities like this make it really accessible to people. I would like to see more opportunities,” Stewart said.

The vessel will stop in New York from April 10 to April 22 at the North Cove Marina.
