Toronto just broke a 32-year-old rainfall record

Toronto Pearson International Airport has reported its rainiest April on record, beating a 32-year-record set in 1992.

As of 8 a.m. on April 30, Pearson recorded 135.1 mm of rain, beating the previous record of 133.4 mm of rainfall, set in 1992.

There were a total of 13 days with reported rainfall this month, which is typical for April. What really pushed this month over the edge in terms of rainfall was that there were 2 days with 30+ mm of rainfall recorded, which coincidentally also happened in 1992.

The rainiest day reported this month was April 11, with 33.8 mm of rain.

Although a record was reported for rainfall this month, it is important to note that it was not the wettest April on record as both rain and snow would have to be reported in order to beat that record.

Timmins and Sudbury also recorded their rainiest Aprils on record, while Wiarton just fell short and saw its second rainiest April.

With the way the weather pattern was in April, most areas in southern and northeastern Ontario saw normal or above average precipitation totals. However, some areas just continued to get persistent bands of moisture over the same areas.
