Tornado watch in effect; line of strong to severe storms arrives this afternoon

Apr. 17—A line of strong to severe thunderstorms is arriving this afternoon, with damaging winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes possible.

A tornado watch is in effect until 7 p.m., issued by the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

The high for today will be near 77 degrees and it will be breezy with a southwest wind around 20 mph and gusts as high as 34 mph outside of any storms.

Local heavy rainfall could cause isolated flooding, the NWS said.

A chance of showers and thunderstorms continues before 8 p.m. Clouds will then start to decrease to mostly clear skies with an overnight low around 51 degrees.

Thursday will be sunny with a high near 78 degrees.

Showers and possibly a thunderstorm is in the forecast Thursday night, which will have an overnight low around 54 degrees. There is another chance for strong, damaging winds overnight.

The best chance for strong storms is in the Tri-State area, according to NWS.

Showers will continue early Friday with a thunderstorm possible before 8 a.m. It will be cooler with a high near 64 degrees.

Friday night will be mostly cloudy with an overnight low around 43 degrees.

Saturday and Sunday will be mostly sunny but cooler with a high near 58 degrees. Patchy frost is likely before 8 a.m. both days.
