Topeka man arrested after firing gun at neighbor

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Police arrested a local man shooting at his neighbors in a north Topeka area on Thursday.

Rosie Nichols with the City of Topeka said in a press release that the Topeka Police Department (TPD) arrested a 36-year-old Topeka man around 9:15 p.m. on Feb. 29 in the 1000 block of Monroe Street. Police were initially called to the area on reports of a disturbance.

Upon arrival, police found the Topeka man had allegedly fired a gun at another individual. It was later found the man had warrants for his arrest and was not allowed to have a firearm. The victim was known to the felon.

The Topeka man was arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on the following charges:

  • Criminal use of weapons; possession of firearm by person convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence

  • Possession of marijuana

  • Unlawful discharge of firearm in city limits

  • Use/possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia into human body

  • Two warrants
