Top Ukrainian general exposes Russian objectives for Kharkiv and Sumy

The Kremlin does have a plan to capture Kharkiv or Sumy, Lieutenant General Oleksandr Pavliuk, Commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces of Ukraine, said in an interview with The Times on May 2, citing intelligence.
"Our special services say that the Russians do have a plan to capture Kharkiv or Sumy," he said.
However, it remains uncertain how feasible these plans are, given the current resources available to Russian forces.
Potential Russian offensive targeting Kharkiv
The Russian news agency Meduza published a story on March 26 about dictator Vladimir Putin's plans to allegedly seize Kharkiv.
A source close to the presidential administration believes that the country's leadership aims to capture Kharkiv and then end the so-called "special military operation."

"Symbolically, this is also a victory. It's a city of one million people with a large Russian-speaking population," said one of the sources.
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said on Feb. 22 that there was "some concern" about a possible new Russian offensive against the city, but that the aggressor lacked resources for it.
The Russian media outlet Verstka earlier reported, citing sources, that the Russian military command hopes to "conduct an offensive operation to surround Kharkiv" by increasing the number of troops in the future.
Analysts at the U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War noted that such an operation would create serious problems for both the Russian forces responsible for the operation and the broader campaign of the aggressor in Ukraine, and there are no signs of its preparation.
