TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN: Pawhuska High School's Mason Gilkey picked for Oklahoma All-State team
Pawhuska High School’s football program has been bless the past half-dozen years with some exceptional talents.
None of them have outshone Mason Gilkey.
The Huskies senior receiver/defensive back — who has committed to play for Oklahoma State — collected a singular honor this week by being named to The Oklahoman All-State Football Second Team.
Making the honor more significant is that the list was open to players statewide from every class and grade.
Gilkey (6-3, 185) was selected as a wide receiver.
Gilkey was the lone representative from Washington, Osage or Nowata counties.

During his four seasons, Pawhuska powered to a 40-11 record — coming off an 0-10 season the year before Gilkey and his fellow seniors arrived on the scene.
During each of the past two season the Huskies advanced to the Class A semifinals and finished just a score each year of playing for the state title.
Gilkey provided Pawhuska’s most explosive deep threat. Gilkey and senior teammate Dalton Hurd provided Pawhuska a pass defense bustin’-tandem.
Gilkey also excels on the track.
Last spring, he burst to the state title in both the 200m dash (:21.87) and 400m dash (:51.02), and helped power the Huskies’ 4x100m relay team to second place and 4x200m relay squad to fourth place.
