Top 5 manufacturers of tablet computers in 1Q

Apple dominates the market for tablet computers, shipping nearly six out of every 10 tablets in the first quarter, according to research firm IHS iSuppli. In the April-June quarter, Apple sold another 17 million iPads, a quarterly record for the company. It brings the total to more than 84 million.

Here are the top five manufacturers of tablets as of the first quarter. Complete figures for the second quarter are not yet available.

Apple Inc., maker of the iPad, 11.8 million shipped worldwide, 57 percent share

Samsung Electronics Co., maker of Galaxy line, 2.2 million, 10.6 percent.

Amazon.com Inc., maker of Kindle Fire, 1.2 million, 5.7 percent

Lenovo Group Ltd., 672,000, 3.2 percent

AsusTek Computer Inc., maker of Transformer line, 590,000, 2.8 percent

Other, 4.3 million, 20.6 percent
