Top 10 VOD films in the US: 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' tops list

The week's top watched video-on-demand (VOD) films were announced Monday by Rentrak based on data collected over the period March 19-25, with David Fincher's version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo racing to first place.

Starring Daniel Craig and Oscar nominee Rooney Mara, the remake of the Swedish hit thriller adapted from Stieg Larsson's best-selling book was released March 20 along with a new entry sitting in second place, the comedy The Sitter starring Jonah Hill.

Film fans were catching up with the Oscars as nominated films have finished theatrical runs. Other films newly available to VOD included Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy from the John le Carré novel, starring Oscar nominee Gary Oldman.

With VOD cheaper than cinema tickets for the family, kids watched Steven Spielberg's animated The Adventures of Tintin, based on the comics of Hergé, and the live-action family comedy The Muppets with Jason Segel and Amy Adams, which also landed in the top ten.

Holdovers include George Clooney's The Descendants, slipping from the top spot, and Adam Sandler's Jack and Jill, which earned the honor of worst film of 2011 at the Razzies on April 1.
