Tom's of Maine launches "50 States for Good"
Tom's of Maine taking nominations for grants to nonprofit organizations
KENNEBUNK, Maine (AP) -- Tom's of Maine is soliciting nominations for its fifth annual "50 States for Good" initiative.
Beginning Tuesday, the Kennebunk-based natural personal care products company will allow people to nominate nonprofit organizations for a chance to share in $150,000 in funding.
The program aims to fund grassroots community projects, with previous winners getting grants for initiatives such as sustainable nature trails, community playgrounds and shelter for the homeless.
A panel of judges will choose 51 finalists — one from each state and the District of Columbia — before a final public vote in September determines the 15 organizations that will win $10,000 each.
Nominations can be made from Tuesday through July 1 at www.50statesforgood.com .
