EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – While the matchup didn’t seem to have much hype coming in, Michigan State made Tuesday a memorable day at the Breslin Center.

The Spartans welcomed in rival Michigan, for a 9 p.m. tipoff and a matchup between two teams with losing records in Big Ten play. MSU entered Tuesday 4-5 in the conference while Michigan sat at the bottom of the Big Ten with a 2-7 record.

None of that mattered for Spartan fans after Tuesday’s game, as MSU picked up an 81-62 win and gave head coach Tom Izzo the 700th win of his coaching career.

On top of reaching the major milestone, Izzo did it on his 69th birthday.

The Hall of Fame coach is in his 29th year coaching the Spartans and became the first Big Ten head coach to reach 700 career wins at one school.

Also reaching a major milestone was senior A.J. Hoggard, who scored in the final seconds of the game to surpass 1,000 career points.

Jaden Akins led the way for MSU on Tuesday, scoring a career-high 23 points and connecting on a career-high seven 3s.
