Tom Brady 'likes' Colin Kaepernick as face of new Nike campaign
Tom Brady has become increasingly active on Instagram, both with his own posts and liking posts by others.
Often, Brady is listed among those liking photos or videos posted by his current or former teammates, and his wife, Gisele Bundchen.
‘Liking’ Kaepernick
On Monday, Brady liked a post by men’s lifestyle magazine GQ. He’s been featured in the magazine several times, so it’s no surprise that he would follow the monthly publication’s feed.
But the post was about Kaepernick as the face of sports giant Nike’s 30th anniversary campaign, and explained that because Kaepernick is “suing NFL owners for allegedly colluding to keep him out of the league” it’s a “particularly powerful time for him to front a campaign with this message.”
Recently retired running back DeMarco Murray also commented, “Respect.”
Offering support
Brady’s like of the GQ post isn’t the most emphatic shows of support, but the 41-year-old could have scrolled past the picture and not responded.
Brady hasn’t said a lot about the controversy around Kaepernick and the protests the now-unemployed quarterback sparked.
Two years after the debate was sparked, Brady offered a semblance of support during an interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired in June; he said there were “good, healthy conversations” that happened in the Patriots’ locker room, and noted that “you respect what other people – I respect what people are doing what they’re doing… I thought it was great. We support what people are going through.”
In a 2017 interview with CBS, Brady praised Kaepernick, and said, “I sure hope so” when asked if Kaepernick could play in the NFL again. “He’s certainly qualified,” Brady said.
