Tire comes off Jeep, causing multi-vehicle head-on crash near 23rd, Wheeling

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — At least three people were injured late Wednesday afternoon following a multi-vehicle crash in Kansas City Missouri.

Kansas City police responded to the crash, involving critical injuries, just before 4:40 p.m. in the area of 23rd Street and Wheeling Avenue.

Investigation into the crash revealed that the driver of a black Jeep Wrangler was traveling west on 23rd Street when the left rear tire and rim came off the vehicle.

The Jeep then crossed the double yellow line and struck a silver Subaru Forrester and a white Nissan Versa head on.

The driver, front seat passenger and right seat passenger of the Nissan were all taken to local hospitals with critical injuries. A left rear seat passenger in the Nissan ran from the scene on foot.

The driver of the Jeep and the driver of the Subaru were not injured, according to KCPD.

KCPD said the driver and passenger of the Nissan are all currently in serious but stable condition.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
