Tip leads to charges in fatal shooting of off-duty police officer
The family of a Washington, D.C. police officer shot and killed while off duty in west Baltimore seven years ago is finally seeing some justice. Prosecutors announced an arrest in the cold case Wednesday. "We are here to announce charges against Mr. Dion Thompson for the murder of D.C. Metropolitan Police Department Sgt. Tony Mason Jr., which will be the first case handled by our office's newly created cold case unit," Baltimore City State's Attorney Ivan Bates said.
