Timken buys Smith Services for undisclosed sum, expands offerings of industrial services

CANTON, Ohio (AP) -- Timken Co. has acquired the assets of Smith Services, expanding the industrial service capabilities of the power transmission and bearings company.

Financial terms were not disclosed Friday.

Smith Services Inc., based in Princeton, W.Va., repairs and rewinds electric motors and conducts on-site testing and repairs. It also performs other mechanical equipment repairs, mainly related to pumps, fan and blowers.

The company's 2012 sales totaled about $17 million and it employs more than 140 people, Timken said.

The acquisition will expand Timken's motor repair services and give it a new regional service center location where it can grow its existing gearbox and bearing repair services.
