Timing error resolved, state OKs city budget

May 9—After the state raised a red flag about the city of Clinton publishing notice of a budget hearing too early, the situation has been resolved.

The Iowa Department of Management notified the city on Wednesday that its fiscal year 2025 budget has been approved.

On May 3, the city had issued a press release stating the city had been notified by the department that the newspaper publication of the city's public hearing on the proposed fiscal year 2025 tax levy was published outside the tolerance of notice by four days.

The budget, lowering the city's levy, and its approval is a direct result of the insight and decisions made by the mayor and City Council, according to another news release from the city.

"The City thanks Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, State Senator Chris Cournoyer, and State Representative Tom Determann for their support," it says.
