Times Leader Best of the Best Awards event kicked off in Plains Township

PLAINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Times Leader hosted the Best of the Best awards at the Woodlands Inn in Luzerne County on Monday.

PA live! hosts Christopher Bohinski and Rachel Malak were there along with 28/22 News Reporter Paola Giangiacomo.

Award winners were invited to a celebration where they could enjoy food and drinks, and at the end of the night receive their awards..

Easter Pizza a hot seller at Sabatelle’s Market

Many members of the 28/22 News team took home awards in several different catagories.

Go Digit, an Indian insurance startup, has raised $141 million from dozens of investors as part of an initial public offering that starts on Wednesday. Fidelity, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, Bay Pond, Mirae Asset Management, Steadview Capital, and HSBC, as well as Indian mutual funds operated by SBI, ICICI, Axis, Tata and Edelweiss served as anchor backers for the IPO, Go Digit disclosed in a filing to the stock exchange.

AWS confirms will launch European 'sovereign cloud' in Germany by 2025, plans €7.8B investment over 15 years
Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon's cloud computing business, has confirmed further details of its European "sovereign cloud," which is designed to enable greater data residency across the region. The company said that the first AWS sovereign cloud region will be set up in the German state of Brandenburg, and will go live by the end of 2025. AWS added that it plans to invest €7.8 billion ($8.5 billion) in the facility through 2040.

Motional cut about 550 employees, around 40%, in recent restructuring, sources say
Around 550 employees across autonomous vehicle company Motional have been laid off, according to information taken from WARN notice filings and sources at the company. Earlier this week, TechCrunch reported that Motional is pausing commercial operations and delaying plans to launch a robotaxi service with its next-gen Hyundai Ioniq 5 robotaxis until 2026 as it undergoes restructuring. An employee at Motional who spoke to TechCrunch on the condition of anonymity said every team has been affected, with high-level departures including the company’s chief operating officer, Abe Ghabra.

Google’s gunning for OpenAI’s Sora with Veo, an AI model that can create 1080p video clips around a minute long given a text prompt. Unveiled on Tuesday at Google’s I/O 2024 developer conference, Veo can capture different visual and cinematic styles, including shots of landscapes and time lapses, and make edits and adjustments to already generated footage. “We’re exploring features like storyboarding and generating longer scenes to see what Veo can do,” Demis Hassabis, head of Google’s AI R&D lab DeepMind, told reporters during a virtual roundtable.
