A look at the other nominees for the Times Herald-Record Student of the Week …

Michael Silva, Washingtonville: Brian Connolly, Washingtonville High School principal, says Michael Silva would make the perfect nomination for the Times Herald-Record Student of the Week. Michael's teachers describe him as one of the friendliest students they know and he always enters the classroom with a big smile on his face. While in class, Michael is cooperative, respectful, and always willing to help others. These characteristics led to him being nominated by multiple teachers for this year's annual Sojourner Truth Awards. In addition to that, Michael is also a very active individual. He is a member of the Varsity Basketball team and SSA (Safe School Ambassadors). He is also the school mascot and was recently selected to represent Washingtonville at this year's HOBY conference. HOBY stands for Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership, where students attend leadership conferences all across the country. Participating schools are permitted to send one sophomore student representative each year and Michael was selected to represent Washingtonville this spring.

Connor Weyant, Tri-Valley: Connor is currently a senior at Tri-Valley and is a prime example of a student who leads with respect and maturity in our school. Connor is recognized for his academic achievements as well as his accomplishments in music and extracurriculars. Connor participates in rigorous academic programs, including college-level calculus amongst numerous other college-level courses. He has maintained a 4.0 GPA and is currently ranked in the top 10 students of his class. His calculus teacher states, "He is a true leader among his peers and is respected by his teachers." Connor's teachers also describe him as hard-working, disciplined, a role model, and a leader both in and out of the classroom. Connor is an All-State vocalist, an Area All-State instrumentalist, and a member of our National Honor Society.
